Dear
Fellow Hellenes,
This Committee has been officially registered with the US Census Bureau
as an advocate of the 2010 Census in order to help increase the
response of Greek Americans and to provide guidance on how to register
and identify our Greek ethnic origin. This committee can be used
as a
collective publicity platform by all Hellenes wishing to use it for
that purpose.
Identifying our Hellenic (Greek) ethnic origin is important in order to
determine our numbers in the US and thus, be able to advocate from a
point of strength for issues of our ethnic interests.
 Every
residential address in the USA will be receiving the Census
material in March 2010. The form contains only 10 questions which can
be answered very easily and quickly as opposed to the long forms used
in past Census. It must be filled out to account for every one
living
at that address as of April 1, 2010, and it must be returned as soon as
possible after April 1st.
Since Greek is not one of the ethnic group options on the form, we
suggest that our fellow Greek Americans follow the example shown in the
attached sample of Question #9 in order to register their Greek ethnic
origin. NOTE: The form may not be filled out online but only on
the
original hard copy document you receive from the US Census
Bureau.
This is only a sample.
Please make it a project in your region to distribute this information
to Greek American members of your community, your organization, your
Parish, your friends, relatives and your email lists. You may use
your
own material if you wish, as long as it is done the same spirit.
His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios of America is in full support of this
project and has agreed to be the Honorary Chairman. SAE

Mr. Ted Spyropoulos has also agreed to be an honorary
co-chair. AHEPA
is also in full support of the project and we are awaiting the
consent
of many Presidents of other Greek American leading organizations.
If
you and/or your organization wish to help promote this project and
would like to have you and/or your organization listed on the website
as a supporter, committee member, and/or co-chair, please indicate so
by replying to this message. This is a nation-wide project and we
want
to publicize it in every corner of the United States so as to reach as
many Greek Americans as possible.
Particularly, we would like to enlist the help of all Greek American
Media in publicizing this information , whether they be Print media
(newspapers, newsletters, etc.) Radio programs, TV programs, or
Internet websites, blogs, etc. We will acknowledge your support and
list your media on the website, (www.census2010gr.org or
www.census2010gr.com) which is currently being constructed. You may
also refer people to this website for instructions on how to respond.
