Οι Αμερικανοί πολιτικοί: Μας δουλεύουν "ψιλό γαζί" γιά τα Σκόπια. Η περίπτωση Ιλλινόις
Εκδίδουν ψηφίσματα και υπέρ των Ελλήνων και υπέρ των Σκοπιανών κι εμείς πανηγυρίζουμε!

Πολλές φορές διαφημίζεται (στα ΜΜΕ στην Ελλάδα κι ελληνόφωνα στις ΗΠΑ)
από τις ομογενειακές μας Οργανώσεις, ειδικά την ΠανΜακεδονική, ότι η
Βουλή ή η Γερουσία της τάδε Πολιτείας των ΗΠΑ, ενέκρινε ψήφισμα υπέρ
των θέσεών μας γιά τα Σκόπια, τ' όνομα "Μακεδονία" κ.λ.π. Ναι,
ενέκρινε, αλλά λίγους μήνες μετά ή ενωρίτερα, οι ίδιοι πολιτικοί
εγκρίνουν αντίστοιχο ψήφισμα και γιά τους... Σκοπιανούς, υπέρ των
θέσεών τους. Είναι αυτονόητο ότι ψηφίσματα τέτοιας μορφής από τα
νομοθετικά Σώματα των Πολιτειών δεν έχουν ουσία.
Στα πλαίσια των δημόσιων σχέσεων των Αμερικανών πολιτικών και γιά να
ελκύσουν οικονομικούς υποστηρικτές ή ψήφους, προωθούν τέτοια ψηφίσματα,
τα κείμενα των οποίων τους δίνονται από τους ενδιαφερόμενους παράγοντες
Οργανώσεων και ψηφίζονται από την ολομέλεια. Πρακτική αξία όμως δεν
έχουν, απλούστατα επειδή την (εξωτερική) πολιτική στις ΗΠΑ καθορίζει
αποκλειστικά η ομοσπονδιακή κυβέρνηση και όχι οι τοπικές κυβερνήσεις
(Πολιτείες- States).
Κλασσική η περίπτωση της Γερουσίας της Πολιτείας του Ιλλινόις, με τα
ψηφίσματα που έκδοσε, ένα με φιλελληνικές θέσεις κι ένα με
φιλοσκοπιανές (παρακάτω τα κείμενα και των δύο).
Τονίζουμε την διαφορά στην διατύπωση των ψηφισμάτων: Το ελληνικό
προσπαθεί να πείσει ότι οι 'Ελληνες στην Μακεδονία είναι...'Ελληνες
-λες και χρειάζεται ψήφισμα αμερικανικού νομοθετικού Σώματος γιά να
επιβεβαιωθεί ως 'Ελληνας ο κάτοικος της Καβάλας ή της Νάουσας ή της
Κοζάνης ή ο Αμερικανός πολίτης-Ελληνοαμερικανός, ο καταγόμενος από αυτές τις πόλεις. Το Σκοπιανό προσπαθεί να
πείσει ότι "ονομαζόμαστε Μακεδονία".
Καταλαβαίνουμε τον "αγώνα" της πανΜακεδονικής, της Οργάνωσης της
"πλάκας", γιά να ακουστεί ότι κάτι κάνει και να κερδίσει λίγη
δημοσιότητα στα ΜΜΕ στην Ελλάδα, που δεν γνωρίζουν πως λειτουργεί το
πολιτικό σύστημα στις ΗΠΑ και εντυπωσιάζονται, ίσως, από "ψηφίσματα".
Δυστυχώς όμως τα γεγονότα και η ωμή πραγματικότητα μας δείχνουν άλλα
πράγματα, από αυτά που θέλουν να προβάλουν.
Σημειώνουμε ότι το Ιλλινόις είναι η Πολιτεία όπου ζουν οι "ηγέτες" μας:
Ο "παγκόσμιος" πρόεδρος του ΣΑΕ, ο πρόεδρος του ΣΑΕ Αμερικής και ο
(μόνιμος) πρόεδρος του "Εθνικού Ελληνοαμερικανικού Συμβούλιου".

SENATE RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Philip of Macedonia, his son, Alexander the Great,
and his tutor, the philosopher Aristotle, were born and raised in the
Northern Province of Greece, Macedonia; and
WHEREAS, The language and culture of the ancient Macedonians,
the ancestors of the inhabitants of northern Greece
of today, were Hellenic; and
WHEREAS, The Macedonians, like the rest of the Hellenes in
Antiquity, believed in the 12 Gods of Olympus and
participated with their fellow Hellenes in the Olympic Games; and
WHEREAS, Pella, the palace where Alexander the Great was born,
and Vergina, the burial site of the Macedonian kings, are
all located in Northern Greece;
therefore, be it RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE
NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ΑSSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that for all
of the above reasons, we proclaim that the
ancient Macedonians are Hellenes and that the inhabitants
of the northern province of Greece, Macedonia, are their Hellenic
Descendants; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the history of Ancient Macedonia has been Hellenic for 3,000 years and continues to be today».

SENATE RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, In 1991, 95 percent of the voters of Macedonia voted for independence from Yugoslavia; and
WHEREAS, In 1993, the Republic of Macedonia became a member of the United Nations; and
WHEREAS, In 1994, the United States of America recognized the Republic
of Macedonia as a sovereign state, and the Republic of Macedonia was
recently cited and honored by President Bush and the United States
Department of State for its support in the war with Iraq; and
WHEREAS, There is a large contingency of Macedonians living throughout the United States; therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE
STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we support the rights of Macedonians living
throughout the Balkans to speak their language, to attend schools and
churches offered in their language, to practice their customs, to be
able to call themselves Macedonians, and to be granted all the civil
and human rights required by international law; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be presented to the President
and Vice President of the United States, to the Speaker of the House of
Representatives, to the Majority Leader of the Senate, and to each
member of the Illinois Congressional Delegation».

Αντίδραση του ΣΑΕ Αμερικής
Λάβαμε (3 Ιουνίου 2005, στ' αγγλικά) και δημοσιεύουμε την ακόλουθη ανακοίνωση του ΣΑΕ Αμερικής:
«CHICAGO, IL - In a letter sent today to Illinois Senate
President Emil Jones, Jr. and to every Illinois State Senator, ΣΑΕ V.P.
and Regional Coordinator for N. & S. America Chris P. Tomaras
denounced the Resolution (SR0063) passed on May 20, not only for its
repeated references to the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia
(F.Y.R.O.M.) as the “Republic of Macedonia,” but for endorsing the
text’s serious historic errors as fact. “I can’t believe that
Illinois’ Senators would intentionally approve a draft resolution with
errors of fact. Therefore, we must conclude that the Senators
were blinded by SR0063’s references to the right to speak Yugoslavian,
etc. and couldn’t see that they were actually being used to legitimize
F.Y.R.O.M.’s accelerated use of “Republic of Macedonia,” a name only
two countries in the world accept: Turkey and the U.S. I
call upon all Illinois’ Greek-Americans and philhellenes,” Tomaras
continued, “to follow our ΣΑΕ Region’s lead, and to contact Governor
Blagojevich, Mayor Daley their State Senators and Congress to denounce
the abuse of such a venerable institution by those who wish to prevail
on an issue so vital to Greece’s historic interests.” The letter
sent to Illinois officials by Tomaras reads in part:
What errors? In line 4, the Resolution states: “…In 1993, the
Republic of Macedonia became a member of the United Nations.”
False; the country that was admitted to the UN, and continues to be
recognized by the UN today, is FYROM, not the “Republic of Macedonia.”
In line 6, the Resolution states “…in 1994, the United States of
America recognized the Republic of Macedonia as a sovereign state…”
Also false; the U.S. recognized the country as FYROM, not the “Republic
of Macedonia.” Only in Nov. 2004 did the U.S. join Turkey
as one of only two countries in the world using “Republic of Macedonia”
when referring to the government in Skopje.
Greece, whose northernmost province has been known as “Macedonia” for
thousands of years, has issues with Skopje’s use of “Republic of
Macedonia.” So did U.S. Sec. of State Stettinius, who called
Yugoslavian claims to the name “…unjustified demagoguery representing
no ethnic or political reality” and “a cloak for aggressive intentions
against Greece.” Would the U.S. say nothing if Canada’s Yukon
Territory became independent and insisted on being called the “Republic
of Alaska?” Greece and FYROM continue to negotiate over a final
name. The rest of the world respects those negotiations; the U.S.
and the Illinois Senate should as well.
On behalf of the more than 300,000 Illinois citizens of Greek descent,
the 1.5 million in the U.S., and in accord with the 99% of the world’s
governments who refuse to recognize FYROM as a “Republic of Macedonia”
out of respect for history, truth and the ongoing negotiations between
FYROM and Greece, I demand that SR0063 be immediately rescinded by the
Illinois Senate».
